WIND POWER– the world's fastest growing energy source!

Helpful Links

Wind power is 85% less expensive than it was 20 years ago.  With a myriad of problems related to our oil supplies, wind power is looking better than ever. It is also hot in the news, having just finished a great year (as an industry) and receiving some recent political support.

Here is an assortment of links to pursue for fun graphics and a world of information about wind power:

www.capewind.org  - this is a huge project proposed for Nantucket Sound.  It is well-funded and well-organized and has a good shot at happening.  See their website for articles and information.  170 towers…each generating up to 1.2 megawatts of power…enough power for all of the cape and islands.  This project would be equal in output to an average size gas or coal power plant, but with zero greenhouse gas or pollutant emissions.

There is a proposed wind project  for Redington Mountain in Maine, by the Endless Energy Co. of Yarmouth, Maine - check them out at www.endlessenergy.com.

http://www.hullwind.org - a recent small-town success story with a single turbine in Hull, MA.  Worth checking out.  Who knows, perhaps something like this could happen in Maine with enough persistence.

http://www.eere.energy.gov/windandhydro/windpoweringamerica/  -  Wind Powering America is an initiative aimed at increasing the use of wind power nation-wide.  There is information about regional events and resources. Includes articles on the Horseshoe Shoals project and the Hull project.

www.nrel.gov/wind- National Renewable Energy Laboratory

http://www1.eere.energy.gov/windandhydro/ -  Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network of the Dept. of Energy. This site is easy-to use and starts with the basics.   Lots of links.

http://www.awea.org - American Wind Energy Association - This is the national trade association for wind energy.  They are wind power advocates in D.C. and have lots of press releases and articles to review.  The website has a ton of information about wind power.  They also have info about green power, something we may want to work on promoting locally.
