Take Action!

During deliberative sessions in May, the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) staff and commissioners discussed and agreed to new revisions of the Plum Creek development plan that would pave the way to approval of the largest development proposal in Maine’s history (should the Seattle-based corporation agree to them).

What is particularly alarming about the proposed revisions is that LURC staff do not propose to reduce the number of house lots or resort residences (totaling over 2000 units).

Also alarming is that despite overwhelming ecological impact evidence and public opposition to any development being sited near Lily Bay State Park (on the eastern “wilder” side of Moosehead Lake), staff simply recommended concentrating the heavy resort development on 1358 acres instead of the 4358 acres Plum Creek asked for.

Write a Letter to LURC

LURC will be accepting public comment on the proposed revisions from June 11 – July 11.  Write a letter to LURC and express your disappointment and concern about the revisions to the plan.  You can read the full set of recommendations here.

Examples:

“It is shocking that the staff have not recommended reducing the amount of development around Moosehead Lake”

“I strongly urge LURC to eliminate any possibility of development at Lily Bay”

Send your letter to:

Write a Letter to the Editor

Summarize your comments to LURC and send them in as a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.  In your letter don’t be afraid to ask other readers to write to LURC as well.  The letters to the editor section is one of the most widely read sections of the paper, and is a great way to generate interest in an issue and move people to action.   Tips for writing letters to the editor
