| 10 Year Plan | Take Action | MW Home | 10 Year Plan for Maine's Forests Maine’s Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) is in the process of updating its 1997 Comprehensive Land Use Plan. This plan will guide the management of 10.5 million acres of unorganized forestlands for the next 10 years.
The LURC staff have drafted a good 10-year plan that will ensure these four principle values: 1) Diverse, abundant and unique natural resources 2) Fiber and food production, and the tradition of a working landscape 3) Diverse and abundant recreational opportunities particularly for primitive pursuits 4) Remoteness and natural character values LURC is seeking public comment on the current draft of the plan and have scheduled a series of public workshops. These workshops are an opportunity for the public to review the plan, ask questions, and give feedback. The recent Plum Creek development proposal is just a small piece of what could happen for major development across the Maine Woods. In order to avoid inappropriate development like the Plum Creek proposal, we need a strong protective 10 year plan.
